Open Water Dive Courses
The Open Water course is designed to cater for all people over the age of 10 years. You will experience a professional level of tuition and training throughout your course. It can be an introduction to the fabulous underwater world or the beginning of a career in scuba diving. On completion of this course you will receive full certification with an internationally recognized training organization, Scuba Schools International. This qualification will allow you to recreationally dive anywhere in the world without further supervision. This will be shown on your own personal wall diploma and certification identification card.
At Big Blue Dive & Fish we can take you as far as your diving needs desire and can get you to the best diving locations. Being a specialist dive store you will find a wide range of activities available through our store and associated clubs.
Course Fees
The course fees include: Entertaining and informative video/lecture sessions.
All study materials, instruction and pool use. An internationally recognized certification card and wall diploma. 5 sea training dives which are carried out locally. They can also be run in other great locations such as Abel Tasman, Picton or D'Urville Island.
Equipment
All equipment can be provided for the duration of your course. Due to the personal fitting nature of some equipment (eg: mask, snorkel, fins, booties & wetsuit), training can be made more comfortable with your own equipment.
Our staff can help you select the best equipment for your needs at any stage. Big Blue Dive & Fish provide an extensive range of top quality equipment, both new and pre-owned, and we can give experienced advice to help you select the best equipment for your needs and budget. Finance and lay-by facilities are available.
Deposit
To ensure a high level of personal tuition, class sizes are limited, and can fill up quickly especially during the summer months. As a result, we suggest you secure your place as soon as possible with a deposit. In most cases $100 will be required, and on receipt you will receive your open water study kit.
Course Requirements
Prior to all open water work all students are required to have a medical examination completed by their doctor. The form for this is included in the student study kits and can also be picked up from Big Blue Dive & Fish. Students will be required to complete a simple swim test as part of the course. You don't need to be a great swimmer, just comfortable in the water.
Why Big Blue???
It can be a hard step when choosing a training organization for a dive course. The decision can be harder when you have little or no diving knowledge. At Big Blue Dive & Fish we believe that it is at 'beginner' level that good skills and safe habits must be practiced. The course will be run at a pace that will keep everyone interested and no-one will be pressured to keep up with the rest. An important part of this learning process is enjoyment of what you are doing. You have paid us to teach you to the highest standard, at your pace. While other companies have come and gone, Big Blue Dive & Fish have been operating successfully since 1996. Having a lot of local diving experience helps us prepare you in a realistic and practical manner. We place great importance on "after-course" service. If you have any questions or queries about the courses, please phone Mario who will be able to assist you.
